What is that place? It’s what many a motorist near the vicinity of the intersection of County Road 1 and County Road 3 have wondered, including me. Glory Hill… is it a church? Is it a hill? A church on a hill? I discovered Kathy Lande’s studio being just that motorist. One day I just drove down the road, following the signs to “Glory Hill, open Wednesday – Saturday 10-6.” When I arrived, I realized why it is called Glory Hill. Think babbling brook, a covered bridge and a garage converted into an artist’s studio. Envision a talented artist who works while you peruse, and chats with each visitor. At times she has a fire blazing in the wood stove, and coffee and treats handy.
Kathy Lande is a rare gem we have in the lakes area. She is an accomplished artist, who converts everyday and vintage items into lovely pieces of art. She likes scrounging things like fruit crates, old wooden hangers, handles and metal springs and incorporating them into unique one-of-a-kind creations. A native of Fifty Lakes, Kathy was able to leave her day job as a marketing professional to live out her passion as a creator as people discovered her talent. She is especially known for her custom children’s furniture, such as stools and chairs. Glory Hill Studio is open in the lakes area from May through October.
From November through April Kathy lives in Florida and operates a busy art studio there, where folks from Naples and surrounding communities and businesses often commission her work. However, it’s here in the lakes area that she calls home. Her studio is in her father’s garage, and it’s her father who first inspired her to follow her dreams. The combination and her father’s influence and her faith set a palpable tone to her studio here. “It’s all for His glory,” she reminded me as we chatted. Indeed. Many of her works include encouraging scriptures. A body can sense a peaceful serenity upon entry. 2021 is the 10th anniversary of the creation of Glory Hills art studio. In the past ten years, Kathy’s clientele has blossomed from just random drop-ins like me to commissioned work that is as unique as the clients who want something really special for their homes. Glory Hill: Creative Art Studio and Gallery: best kept secret in the lakes area… a sparkling gem hidden deep in the woods. You can visit her website: GloryHillStudios.com, but I recommend going there in person. Follow the signs.
