Zorbaz on the Lake started back in 1969 when a speech teacher and his dental assistant wife turned an old candy store into a fun, free-spirited beach bar inspired by the movie Zorba the Greek. They wanted a laid-back spot with “no shirt, no shoes, no problems” vibes—perfect for the northern Minnesota lake scene.
While some call it a restaurant, Zorbaz sees itself as a great-times Mexican and pizza joint with the best staff in the Midwest. They’re self-service with a smile, featuring the area’s best beer selection, homemade pizza dough, and fresh salsa daily. With games for all ages and access by car, boat, snowmobile, or even float plane, it’s a local favorite—reportedly preferred by James Buffett himself!
