What if I tried everything there is to do at least once? You would fill up your calendar quickly and keep yourself busy. That’s right, even in November. You say there is a shortage of meat and it’s also very expensive? If you are lucky, you can win meat almost every day of the week at our local meat raffles. The American Legion has meat raffles on Tuesdays, Moonlite Bay on Wednesdays, back at the Legion on Fridays, and at Fourteen Lakes Brewery on Sundays. Do you like Poker? Check it out at Moonlite Bay on Monday nights. Hankering for a trivia night? Fridays at Moonlite Bay. BINGO! Bingo games are hot at Manhattan Beach Lodge and The American Legion on Saturdays.
If you are open to venture out of the area, it’s worth the trip to Nisswa for the Light up the Town celebration on Friday, the 26th. They’ll have bonfires, hay rides, music, and fireworks. If you’re free the weekend before Thanksgiving (November 19-21st), Grandview in Nisswa is hosting their annual Brewfest. You can go for the day, but staying onsite for the weekend truly is an enjoyable experience. Also, the Fifty Lakes municipal bar hosts meat raffles and bingo on Thursdays, as well as providing live music often on the weekends.
While it’s true that November ushers in the start of about four months of darkness and cold, it’s also replete with the holiday feels. I mean, what’s not to love about Thanksgiving? It’s all about being with loved ones, enjoying savory food and being THANKFUL… a tryptophan trifecta! It seems just as you put the last Thanksgiving dish away, Christmas is grabbing you by the elbow and leading you to holiday parties, cookie exchanges, tree shopping and gift-giving. In spite of everything we do have many things to be thankful for and lovely people in our lives to bless with a thoughtful gift. Here’s to a heartfelt holiday season, starting now.
